My Walls Whispered Today

IF WALLS COULD TALK-
Maybe it wasn't outright talking but my walls said something today. I was cleaning the kitchen cabinets (see pic) and on the front ledge I found a 2-inch wide indented area that immediately made me think of the old meat grinder my mother used so long ago. It would clamp on like a vise grip to the edge of a table or counter. We have lived here 7 years now and I never noticed it before. These little things become a bit exciting to those of us who would have loved to live in the years before our time. I can now picture that meat grinder working away with the old-fashioned wood stove burning and the smell of yeast bread in the oven.

I happen to have 2 of those old meat grinders! We saw them at an auction we attended a couple of years ago, bid on them and won. They are in excellent condition and though I have not used them they seem to work perfectly.
My great grandma, grandma and mom passed one down and they used (mom still uses it) to make "ham" salad. Made with bologna not ham...what's up with that? But it was and is delicious.
Love your cabinet...it's so beautiful. My great grandma had one in her kitchen that was much less grand.
We must have had four of those floating around our kitchen when I was a kid. I don't ever remember there being a special spot to attach it though our kitchen had been remodeled at some time. You have really pretty kitchen cabinets!
Beautiful cabinet! My Granny's old meat grinder was one of the things I took from her house this past weekend, though in later years she used it only to grind cranberries for her wonderful cranberry salad. I think it's delightful not just that you found it, but that you recognized it for what it was!
